NAV Drone Enables Users To Submit Drone Flight Authorization Requests From A Mobile Device
Canada's air navigation service provider, NAV CANADA, has launched NAV Drone. Designed to help drone pilots and operators safely and legally fly their remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) in Canada, NAV Drone is now available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. A web version of NAV Drone is also available on NAV CANADA's website. From June to December 2020, NAV CANADA received nearly 16,000 RPAS flight authorization requests, a 54 percent increase over the same period in 2019, and this trend is expected to continue as a growing number of companies and individuals find new uses for drones in Canada.

Descending Through About 1,250 Ft, The Engine Started To Run Rough And Gradually Lost Power
On May 11, 2021, at 1500 central daylight time, a Beech C23, N793Y, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Merrill, Wisconsin. The pilot and passenger had minor injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot reported that he was returning to the airport after a 1-hour flight. When the airplane was about 5 miles from the airport, and descending through about 1,250 ft, the engine started to run rough and gradually lost power. The pilot switched fuel tanks and magnetos, with no change in the power loss.
AD 2021-11-04 Prompted By A Report Of Main Landing Gear (MLG) Retractions After Striking An Obstacle
The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited Model DHC-8-400, -401, and -402 airplanes. This AD was prompted by a report of main landing gear (MLG) retractions after striking an obstacle or severe wheel imbalance after a tire failure. This AD requires inspections for correct height of the lock link over-center stop pin and for correct gaps of the left-hand and right-hand MLG downlock proximity sensors, replacement of the shim if necessary, corrective actions, and installation of a new, improved proximity sensor electronic unit (PSEU) with software changes. Nondiscrete codes are normally reserved for radar facilities that are not equipped with discrete decoding capability and for other purposes such as emergencies (7700), VFR aircraft (1200), etc.
