A mission to explore energy transport in space using a NASA suborbital sounding rocket launching May 8, 2021, from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia may provide a brief light show for residents of the eastern United States and Bermuda. The mission is scheduled for no earlier than 8:02 p.m. EDT with a 40-minute launch window, Saturday, May 8. Backup launch days run through May 16. The launch may be visible, weather permitting, in much of the eastern United States from the Atlantic coast to the Mississippi River.

Approved By To Carry Up To 2,000 Pounds

Bell's 505 cargo hook has been approved by European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to carry up to 2,000 pounds giving the aircraft an external gross weight capability of 4,475 pounds. “The cargo hook capabilities are an important enhancement for the aircraft and an added capability for utility and public safety operations,” said Duncan Van De Velde, managing director, Europe & Russia. “The Bell 505 is built for versatility and being able to adapt quickly, and the cargo hook will be a great addition for our utility customers in Europe.” 

Wide Range of USAF Special Operations Command Aircraft Coming to Oshkosh

The U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) will bring a wide spectrum of its aircraft designed for unique missions as part of its presence at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2021, which takes place July 26-August 1. “As we’ve solidified the roster of aircraft from AFSOC this year, the variety of aircraft coming to Oshkosh is truly impressive,” said Rick Larsen, EAA’s vice president of communities and member programming, who coordinates AirVenture features and attractions. “Each of these aircraft have a distinct mission and role within AFSOC, and those stories will be told at AirVenture 2021.”

Program Available To Nearly 175,000 UAS Hobbyists Who Are Members Of AMA

AMA and UASidekick announced a new partnership to disseminate free recreational Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) flight planning to nearly 175,000 UAS hobbyists who are members of AMA. The software allows pilots to file LAANC authorizations with the FAA when flying in controlled airspace via a web portal and mobile application. It includes additional flight planning tools such as interactive maps, weather information, and flight logs.

Boeing and Uzbekistan Airways recently delivered humanitarian relief supplies to the Aral Sea region of Uzbekistan on board the airline’s newest 787-8 Dreamliner. The shipment of hospital beds, mattresses and wheelchairs will help medical personnel and facilities treat the most vulnerable of Uzbekistan’s population. This is the third humanitarian delivery flight partnership between Boeing and the airline.

Indiana CAP Wing Pilots Conduct Mass 'O-Ride' Campaign

Five Indiana Wing pilots, in as many planes, launched a four-day flying campaign last month. They provided orientation flights for 100 cadets in the Anderson Preparatory Academy, as well as 10 rides for Junior ROTC students and three Teacher Orientation Program flights for instructors. All sixth- through eighth-graders participate in Civil Air Patrol’s cadet program at Anderson Preparatory, a tuition-free charter school. The nearly 160 cadets focus on a college preparatory curriculum mixing liberal arts and sciences as well as military science.

No Known Witnesses That Observed The Airplane Takeoff Or The Accident Itself

On April 25, 2021, about 0745 eastern daylight time, an Aeropro CZ A240 light sport airplane, N417R, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near the Richmond Municipal Airport (RID), Richmond, Indiana. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. At 0737, a weather briefing was requested with an estimated departure time of 0750, and a visual flight rules (VFR) flight plan was filed from RID to Festus Memorial Airport (FES), Festus, Missouri, using the pilot’s ForeFlight account. The VFR flight plan was activated at 0737, the time it was filed.
