Airborne-Unmanned 03.23.21: Skyfront Record, Airspace Control, Drone Tests

Also: Drone Reg Drops, Web Teks Acquired, SkyPixel Winners, SmallRig

Skyfront broke a multi-rotor drone flight time record by staying airborne for 13 hours and 4 minutes and traveling a distance of 205 miles. The world record-breaking flight was achieved by the Skyfront Perimeter 8—the company’s most advanced eight rotor drone. The event was captured via the drone’s onboard 360 cameras. The rationale behind their flight is the Skyfront proprietary fuel-injected hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain. If you think things have been messed up, just wait and see what happens if Senator Mike Lee, gets his way. AMA informs us that Lee (R-UT) has reintroduced the Drone Integration and Zoning Act, a bill that would give states, counties, cities, and local tribal gov

Sportys Home Airport Concerned About NEARBY Housing Development

The Proposal Could Place Homes Near The Base To Final Leg Of The Airport Traffic Pattern

The Clermont County Airport business community, including Sporty's Academy, Eastern Cincinnati Aviation, AirMod, Select Aircraft Service and the Tri-State Warbird Museum, are dealing with a recently approved zoning change (by the Batavia Township Trustees) for a 73 acre parcel in VERY close proximity to Clermont County Airport. The zoning change, from light industrial to planned development "PD," paves the way for a potential 185 unit planned community with homes located as close as 1,000' from the runway surface. You can all imagine what will happen from there... people will move near an airport and then inexplicably start complaining about all those air

Ultimate Bad Reg? Senator Proposes Relieving FAA of Airspace Control

Senator Lee Reintroduces Myopic Drone Integration and Zoning Act

If you think things have been messed up, heretofore, just wait and see what happens if aeronautically-deficient Senator Mike Lee, gets his way. AMA informs us that Lee (R-UT) has reintroduced the misguided Drone Integration and Zoning Act, a bill that would give states, counties, cities, and local tribal governments the right to manage low altitude airspace -- there by creating something of an airspace free-for-all.

Van's Aircraft Reports Solid Sales Despite Pandemic/Supplier Issues

January and February Sales Set Records....

Despite recent issues with a contractor that affected an unspecified number of RV Quick Build kits, Van's Aircraft is soldiering on. Affected kits are being replaced where necessary and the company seems to be dealing with an outside issue with unusual candor and is being fairly upfront with their customer base. One would think that the QB issue would have a negative effect on sales... but the honesty of the company seems to have mollified that greatly. As a matter of fact, Van's reports that, "...it turns out that January and February were – by a significant margin – the largest months of kit sales in the history of Van’s Aircraft … and March is looking about the same.."

Classic Aero-TV: The Visual Eagle 360-Seeing/Experiencing Flying Comprehensively

From 2014 (YouTube Version): Ingenious Airborne Video System Catches ANN's Eye

While at AOPA 2013, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell spoke with David Tenenbaum, CEO of Airborne Sensor, LLC. Airborne Sensor produces an externally mounted aircraft camera system called the Eagle 360. Being a self-admitted techno-geek, Jim just couldn’t pass this up. The Eagle 360 camera system is a pod that mounts externally on the outside of the aircraft. A simple plate is installed on the airplane and the pod can be easily attached or detached. It uses the GoPro camera, and can house from 1 to 4 cameras for any type of video recording. The installation requi
