FAA Announces Effective Dates for Final Drone Rules

Remote ID Requires Identification Of Drones In Flight

The final rules requiring remote identification of drones and allowing some flights over people, over moving vehicles and at night under certain conditions will go into effect on April 21, 2021. Remote identification (Remote ID) requires identification of drones in flight as well as the location of their control stations or takeoff point. It provides crucial information to our national security and law enforcement partners, and other officials charged with ensuring public safety. Airspace awareness reduces the risk of drone interference with other aircraft, people and property on the ground.

Dr. Northrup And Her Husband Are Active GA Pilots

On Wednesday, the EAA Advocacy and Safety team and the leadership of the EAA Aeromedical Advisory Council met with the new Federal Air Surgeon, Dr. Susan Northrup, and her senior medical staff. The FAA proposes a $14,500 civil penalty against an airline passenger for allegedly interfering with flight attendants who instructed him to wear a face mask and stop consuming alcohol he had brought on board the aircraft. On a Dec. 23, 2020 jetBlue Airlines flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York to the Dominican Republic, the passenger crowded the traveler sitting next to him, spoke loudly, and refused to wear his face mask, the FAA alleges. Flight attendants moved the other passenger to a different seat after they complained about the man’s behavior.

NTSB Prelim: Columbia Aircraft Mfg LC42-550FG

He Stopped The Airplane, And Noticed Smoke Coming From The Underside

On February 5, 2021, about 1200 central standard time, a Columbia LC42-550FG airplane, N115FP, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident at the Pawnee County Airport (LQR), Larned, Kansas. The private pilot and one pilot-rated passenger were not injured. The flight was being conducted under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. The pilot (who was the owner of the airplane), reported that the purpose of the flight was to transport the pilot-rated passenger to pick up an airplane at a nearby airport. The pilot commenced a takeoff on runway 35 at LQR, and the airplane did not get airborne, so he stopped the airplane.
