Southwest 737 Hits Person While Landing On Austin Runway

Unknown Person Trespassed Onto Airport And Was Struck By Aircraft

It's been a bizarre week, but recent events have taken a truly twisted turn as a person unlawfully trespassing on an Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (TX) runway was struck by a Southwest Airlines 737 that was completing its landing rollout. The crew noted the presence of the trespasser too late to take any effective evasive action and the left engine struck the unidentified person with fatal result. Frontier Airlines Wants to Take Your Temperature

Will Implement Airport Temperature Screenings Effective June 1

Following a much criticized and somewhat offensive attempt, since retracted, to charge passengers for emptying middle seating, Frontier is now mandating the need to take your temperature. Frontier Airlines has announced it will implement temperature screenings for all passengers and team members prior to boarding flights, effective June 1, 2020. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher will be denied boarding. Additionally, effective May 8, passengers will be required to wear face coverings on all flights, as previously announced in late April.

FAA Proposes $1.29M Civil Penalty Against Chicago Department of Aviation

Alleges That Firefighters Were Improperly Trained

The FAA has proposed a $1,291,621 civil penalty against the City of Chicago Department of Aviation for allegedly violating aircraft rescue and firefighting regulations. The FAA alleges that between April and August 2019, three firefighters at Chicago O’Hare International Airport were assigned to a High Reach Extendable Turret vehicle for a total of 18 shifts when they had not completed required training on operating the turret. One of the firefighters, a lieutenant, falsified 13 training-log entries to make it appear he had completed the training, the FAA alleges.

Dive Delivery Begins Backyard Drone Deliveries

Ready To Drop Essential Goods To San Mateo & Contra Costa Counties (CA)

In an effort to get people familiar with the concept of drone-based deliveries, Dive Delivery has secured confirmation of permission from the FAA to perform drone deliveries under existing Part 107 rules and regulations. Dive Delivery will use off-the-shelf drones equipped with drop mechanisms to conduct visual line of sight (VLOS) deliveries of face masks and other lightweight items to residential backyards. Stunning and Bizarre Circumstances Led To Loss Of STUDENT PILOT

On April 23, 2020, at 2139 mountain daylight time (MDT), radar contact was lost with a Piper Aerostar 601X, N601X. The airplane was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Craig, Colorado. The uncertificated (student rated) pilot sustained fatal injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The airplane was not equipped with automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B), which was required for operations in airspace that included class E airspace at or above 10,000 ft. AD: AERMACCHI S.p.A. Models F.260 Series

AD 2020-09-04 Issued For Unsafe Cracks In Flap Actuators

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for AERMACCHI S.p.A. Models F.260, F.260B, F.260C, F.260D, F.260E, and F.260F airplanes. This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The MCAI describes the unsafe condition as cracks on the body of the flap actuators. The FAA is issuing this AD to require actions to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective May 7, 2020.

"Southwest flight #1392 arrived safely after being cleared to land on runway 17R at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) this evening. The Southwest aircraft maneuvered to avoid an individual who appeared on runway 17R shortly after touchdown. The aircraft quickly came to a safe stop, and the Pilots reported the event to local air traffic controllers. After receiving further instructions from controllers, the aircraft taxied to the gate where all Customers and the Crew deplaned the aircraft safely with no reports of onboard injuries.
