Airborne 03.06.20: Scottish Airshow Cancelled, Sonex v Tree, Weather Camera

The Scottish International Airshow has been cancelled for 2020 amidst a disagreement between the event's organizers and local officials. In a notice posted on Facebook, the South Ayrshire Council said that the airshow organizers have breached their funding agreement with the council, leaving the body with no choice to withdraw funding from the event. The NTSB has released a factual report giving more details from an accident which occurred on December 15, 2018. The amateur-built Sonex B airplane, N393SX collided with a tree and terrain while on final approach to Lodi Lakeland Airport (9WN5), near Lodi, WI. IATA: COVID-19 Hits January Passenger Demand

Coronavirus Driving Down Year-Over-Year Growth

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced global passenger traffic data for January 2020 showing that demand (measured in total revenue passenger kilometers or RPKs) climbed 2.4% compared to January 2019. This was down from 4.6% year-over-year growth for the prior month and is the lowest monthly increase since April 2010, at the time of the volcanic ash cloud crisis in Europe that led to massive airspace closures and flight cancellations. January capacity (available seat kilometers or ASKs) increased by 1.7%. Load factor climbed 0.6 percentage point to 80.3%.
