The FAA has posted a Request for Information (RFI) seeking input from the manned aviation community regarding whether and/or how they can potentially receive and use UAS remote ID information to further enhance safety, by reducing collision risks at lower altitudes. The FAA says the posting is not an RFP. Drones can do many things, but avoiding obstacles is not their strongest suit yet – especially when they move quickly. Although many flying robots are equipped with cameras that can detect obstacles, it typically takes from 20 to 40 milliseconds for the drone to process the image and react. IATA Forecasts Deeper Revenue Hit From COVID-19

FAA’s Response to NTSB’s “Most Wanted” Safety Recommendations

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) share a common goal —­ promoting safety in aviation and preventing aircraft accidents. The record shows the NTSB and FAA agree on a course of action about 80 percent of the time. Of the safety recommendations made to the FAA, the NTSB has classified about 80 percent closed acceptable, and approximately 5 percent remain open in acceptable status.
