Reno Air Races Seek Continuing Financial Support

2020 Was NOT Kind To The Reno Air Race Organization

The future of the Reno Air races remains somewhat questionable as they struggle to deal with the damage caused by a serious accident some years ago, coupled with the most recent year's battle with Covid-19. The Reno folks have been up-front about all this... "For more than 56 years, the National Championship Air Races has carried on a proud legacy. Now, that legacy is in jeopardy due to financial hardship from the COVID-19 pandemic. We are asking for help by launching a fund raising campaign to 'Save The Races' with the goal of raising $500,000 by the end of this year."

Truckee Tahoe Air Show Posts Postponement

Considering A Mid-September 2020 Date

The 2020 Truckee Tahoe Air Show & Family Festival scheduled for Saturday, July 11 is being postponed. The Air Show Committee is considering a mid-September 2020 date, and a decision will be made by no later than the end of June. The Air Show Committee along with Airport executives are closely following COVID-19 updates and regulations/orders from local, State and Federal leaders in addition to the Center for Disease Control (CDC). If the Air Show is rescheduled for September, COVID-19 health and safety regulations and mitigations mandated by local, State, and Federal officials will be adopted and followed.

NTSB Prelim: Cessna 182

The Left Main Landing Gear Began To Shake And Rattle

On September 21, 2020, about 1405 Alaska daylight time, a Cessna 182C airplane, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident at King Salmon, Alaska. The private pilot was not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to the pilot, after a normal touchdown in crosswind conditions, the left main landing gear began to shake and rattle. The shaking continued and became more severe as the airplane continued its landing rollout, and the airplane subsequently began to veer to the left and exited the runway.

AD 2020-25-12 Prompted By Three Crankshaft Assembly Failures That Resulted In The Loss Of Engine Power

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Superior Air Parts, Inc. (SAP) Model IO-360-series and O-360-series reciprocating engines and certain Lycoming Engines (Lycoming) Model AEIO-360-, IO-360-, and O-360-series reciprocating engines with a certain SAP crankshaft assembly installed. This SAP crankshaft assembly is installed as original equipment on the affected SAP engines and as a replacement part under parts manufacturer approval (PMA) on the affected Lycoming engines. AD: Pratt & Whitney Division Turbofan Engines

AD 2020-25-09 Prompted By Reports Of Damaged Or Failed 3rd Stage LPT Duct Segments

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Pratt & Whitney Division (PW) PW4164, PW4164-1D, PW4168, PW4168-1D, PW4168A, PW4168A-1D, and PW4170 model turbofan engines with a certain outer combustion chamber assembly and 3rd stage low-pressure turbine (LPT) duct segments installed. This AD was prompted by reports of damaged or failed 3rd stage LPT duct segments on PW engines with the Talon IIB outer combustion chamber assembly configuration installed. This AD requires removing and replacing certain 3rd stage LPT duct segments. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective January 14, 2021.

We greatly missed our September Family but safety and following Nevada’s restrictions on gathering size unquestionably had to be our priority as we sought to preserve the long-term viability of the Reno Air Races.
