Agreement Includes 100 737 MAXs, 50 Next-Generation 737s, worth $14.7 billion

The orders continue to pile up for Boeing at the Farnborough Air Show. Thursday, the planemaker announced an order by United Continental Holdings and its wholly owned subsidiary, United Air Lines, for 150 737 airplanes, including 100 of the new 737 MAX 9. United, the world's largest airline by traffic, is the latest carrier to choose the newest member of the 737 family, which has surpassed 10,000 orders overall.

Franco-Italian aircraft manufacturer ATR holds two thirds of the order book for regional aircraft with up to 90 seats - a market dominated by turboprops. That was the message presented Wednesday by Filippo Bagnato, ATR’s Chief Executive Officer, at a news conference at the Farnborough International Air Show.

The market for commercial aviation services will grow to $2.4 trillion market over the next 20 years, according to a forecast released Monday by Boeing at the Farnborough Air Show. Lou Mancini, senior vice president, Commercial Aviation Services, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said the market for services is expected to grow at an annual rate of four percent in the next two decades, with growing opportunities to help aviation customers succeed in a highly competitive marketplace.

airBaltic Signs Letter Of Intent For Up To 20 CSeries Airliners

Latvian Flag Carrier Is The Newest CSeries Aircraft Customer

Riga, Latvia-based Air Baltic has signed a letter of intent (LOI) to acquire 10 CS300 aircraft and take purchase rights on a further 10 CS300 jetliners. Bombardier Aerospace announced Tuesday that, based on the list price of the CS300 airliner, a firm-order contract with the network carrier will be valued at approximately $764 million.

Commitment To Purchase Up To 20 737 MAXs And 10 Next-Generation 737-800s

Boeing's list of order announcement at Farnborough continues to grow. The most recent came Wednesday ... a commitment by Avolon to purchase 10 737 MAX 8s and 5 737 MAX 9s, as well as 10 Next-Generation 737-800s. The commitment has a list-price value of $2.3 billion and also includes reconfirmation rights for 5 more 737 MAX airplanes.

Piaggio Aero has inked a deal with with ADASI – Abu Dhabi Autonomous System Investments - a subsidiary of Tawazun – for the development of a new special missions surveillance aircraft, the Piaggio Aero MPA – Multirole Patrol Aircraft. The comprehensive contract covers the complete development of the MPA aircraft, including the roll out of two prototypes with first flight scheduled for 2014.

'Sharklets' Available For The Current-Generation Airplanes

China Aircraft Leasing Company (CALC), the fast growing Hong Kong based aircraft leasing company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the 2012 Farnborough International Airshow for 36 current generation A320 Family aircraft. The deal includes eight A321s, the largest member of the A320 Family and operators will be able to select Airbus’ new fuel saving Sharklets.

Initial Flight Testing Complete For PW1200G

Program Consisted Of 23 Flights And 127 Hours

The first flight test program for the Pratt & Whitney PurePower PW1200G engine was successfully wrapped up June 21st. According to a company news release, the program consisted of 23 flights and 127 hours on a specially designed stub wing aboard Pratt & Whitney's Boeing 747SP flying test bed.

FAA Proposes Penalties For Delta, Kingfisher

Fine Against Mainline Carrier Nearly $1 Million

The FAA is proposing two civil penalties totaling $987,500 against Delta Air Lines of Atlanta, for allegedly operating an Airbus A320 and a Boeing 737-800 on flights when they were not in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations. The agency has also proposed a fine of $185,750 Civil Penalty Against Kingfisher Air Services.

Hypoxia Issues Continue Despite Ongoing Investigation

Despite an ongoing investigation and orders for F22 Raptor pilots to stay close to available emergency landing site, another pilot has been stricken with hypoxia like symptoms. According to the website Wired, the incident occurred last Friday off the coast of Hawaii. The pilot was able to land safely but it marks the 23rd case of an unexplained hypoxic incident since the jet was launched in 2005.

First Flying Appearance Of AW169, AW189 Aircraft

The new generation of AguestaWestland helicopters made its first ever public appearance at the Farnborough International Airshow this week. The family, comprising the AW139 intermediate twin together with the first prototypes of the AW169 light intermediate and AW189 8-tonne class performed in the flying display on the first three days of the show.
