Classic Aero-TV: Bell's Versatile 'Whirly Bird' - The Legendary Bell 47

Some of us can remember back to 1957 when the TV series, Whirlybirds, introduced us to the Bell model 47 helicopter. And then starting in 1972, and running for 11 years, every episode of the TV series M*A*S*H began with two Bell 47’s approaching the landing pad with wounded soldiers strapped to the landing skids. If these visions bring back fond memories, then you don’t want to miss learning about the Lawrence D. Bell Aircraft Museum in Mentone Indiana.

Classic Aero-TV: Go Go Gadget Gyro - Rick Wittridge’s Benson Beauty

When you run across a Benson gyrocopter named Go Go Gadget, you just have to check it out, and that’s where ANN’s Paul Plack headed while at the 2010 Popular Rotorcraft Association meeting. Plack met up with Rick Wittridge who had with him a Benson B8 gyrocopter that was a cut above what you would expect to find.

ANN’s Paul Plack spent some time talking with Ernie Boyette, President of Rotor Flight Dynamics Incorporated. Boyette is a recognized expert in the subject of gyrocopters and got his start in the early Benson machines. He started his business by improving on the Benson and now has his own unique designs. His designs are easy to spot because of their high stance which allows for a true centerline thrust configuration.
