The NTSB has issued a preliminary report in an accident involving an Wiggins Air Boss gyroplane in which the only person on board was fatally injured. The pilot had recently finished building his aircraft, and was conducting flight tests when the accident occurred.

Reno Honors Those Fatally Injured In Accident Last Year

Ceremony Held On Final Day Of 2012 Reno Air Races

We all remember the shock we felt last year when we learned that Jimmy Leeward's modified P-51 "Galloping Ghost" went down at the Reno air races last year, resulting in the fatal injury of the pilot and 10 spectators on the ground. The accident was remembered with a moment of silence Sunday, the final day of racing at Reno-Stead Airport for the 2012 edition of the Reno Air Races.

Alcohol Use Indicated In Fatal LSA Accident

Pilot Tested Positive For Ethanol In His Blood And Urine

The NTSB indicates that the pilot of a Polaris Polar Star flying boat which went down on July 20, 2011 had been consuming alcohol prior to his flight. The accident resulted in the fatal injury to the pilot, identified as Lucas McDowell Smith, 40, and Cara Lee Donohue, 27, a passenger on board the aircraft.
