USCG Aviators Put Themselves On The Line During Natural
Disaster
I had the privilege of deploying to Coast Guard Station Cape Cod
on Aug. 27, 2011 to document the arrival of Hurricane Irene. When
word came that the storm would hit Massachusetts on the 28th, the
Coast Guard was ready with the wisdom of centuries, satellite
imagery and established agency partnerships. Weathering storms in
the Northeastern United States is in our service's ancestral
DNA.
Tests Performed At China Lake Included Hover Maneuvers
Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD), China Lake
performed the first bio-fuel flight test in AV-8B Harrier #88,
Sept. 21 over NAWCWD's land ranges in the upper Mojave Desert.
After preliminary ground test events earlier in the week, the
Harrier was flown by Maj. Gary "Mouth" Shill, a pilot from Air Test
and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 31 at NAWCWD. According to Hal
Bennett, project lead for the AV-8B bio fuel flight test program,
the testing was flawless.
The F-22 Raptor returned to the skies Monday in a series of test
and production flights, the first since a four-month fleet stand
down was lifted on Sept. 19, 2011 by the U.S. Air Force.
Sites In Texas, Georgia, California See Greatest Impact
Lockheed Martin announced Monday there will be approximately 540
reductions in employment across its Aeronautics business area as
part of a plan to trim the organization and improve operational
efficiency. The greatest impacts are occurring at the larger sites
in Fort Worth, TX, Marietta, GA, and Palmdale, CA.
