Formal Acceptance Of C-27J To Take Place In October
L-3 Communications, prime contractor for the US Army and Air
Force Joint Cargo Aircraft (JCA) program, announced Thursday it has
presented the first C-27J JCA to the joint program office on
schedule and on budget. The aircraft is the first of 78 planned to
be delivered to the Department of Defense. The current contract is
valued in excess of $2 billion.
Will Support First 12 Production F-35 Lightning IIs
Pratt & Whitney was awarded a production contract worth up
to $491 million (including options) for F135 propulsion systems to
power the F-35 Lightning II. This second F135 low rate initial
production contract will support 12 F-35 production aircraft,
including six short-takeoff/vertical-landing (STOVL) and six
conventional take-off/landing (CTOL). Propulsion system deliveries
are scheduled to begin in third quarter 2009.
A total of 17 US Air Force and Army officers have received
reprimands of varying severity in the case of four electrical fuses
for ballistic missile nuclear warheads that were shipped to Taiwan
by mistake in 2006.
Blames Enginemaker For Delay... But SAFRAN Disagrees
Airbus parent company EADS is involved in a public argument with
one of its contractors over delays in the A400M military transport
program. The A400M, which EADS has called Europe's most ambitious
military procurement program ever, was supposed to be ready for its
first flight later this year.
