Vanguard Defense Industries is promoting its ShadowHawk unmanned
aerial system as an aviation asset good not only for surveillance,
but also for carrying weapons. Now, ubergizmo.com reports the state
of Texas has been awarded a grant by the Department of Homeland
Security for a squadron of ShadowHawks.
Royal Air Force To Receive Helicopters Starting In 2013
The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) has awarded a $1.64 billion
contract to Boeing to provide 14 new CH-47 Chinook helicopters and
associated support for the first five years to the Royal Air Force
(RAF). The new-build CH-47 Mark (Mk)-6 Chinooks are part of the
MOD's Strategic Helicopter Vision to modernize its helicopter force
structure, and will expand the RAF fleet to 60 Chinooks.
Flight Demonstrates Functionality Of CONECT Interphone
System
A successful evaluation flight of the B-52 Combat Network
Communications Technology (CONECT) interphone system was recently
completed by Boeing. The six-hour flight from Edwards Air Force
Base, CA, evaluated the interphone system's readiness for formal
flight tests and accomplished formal flight tests of other CONECT
capabilities.
Some Black Hawk Helos Now Equipped With Electronic
Interface
In use in other Defense Department aircraft for years,
fly-by-wire has replaced the conventional manual flight controls in
some Black Hawk helicopters. The electronic interface technology
can automatically perform functions without input from the pilot,
such as systems that automatically stabilize the aircraft.
