The first time we hard about the adaptation of the incredible Kaman K-Max helo to an unmanned role, we weren't sure we believed it... but the recent data coming out of the trials and deployment suggest that this is an idea whose time has come. Lockheed Martin and Kaman joined forces to adapt the K-MAX to an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) capable of autonomous or remote controlled cargo delivery -- with a specific mission in mind -- battlefield cargo resupply.
Local Governments Pass Ordinances Opposed To The Move
The U.S. military says it will go ahead with the deployment of a dozen MV-22 Osprey aircraft at American bases in Japan despite local protests and ordinances which strongly oppose the move. At a Pentagon news conference Friday, Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta said U.S. officials have had “very good discussions with our Japanese allies” and have given them assurances regarding concerns about the aircraft’s safety record.

At approximately 1800 MDT Sunday, a Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System equipped C-130 aircraft supporting fire fighting missions went down in the southwest corner of South Dakota. The aircraft was supporting the efforts against the White Draw Fire.
