U.S. DoD To Increasingly Rely On COTS Aircraft

Analyst Frost & Sullivan Forecasts That Fixed-Wing And Rotary Wing 'Off-The-Shelf' Aircraft Will Be Favored Over New Designs

As Department of Defense (DoD) spending decreases, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) aircraft will become more important to future programs. While growth in the market will be limited, use of COTS aircraft will allow for significant savings in the area of research and development (R&D) since they do not require the development costs that would be required for completely new aircraft designs.

Phase One Of Flight Re-Creation Project Documenting Secret WWII Air Route Set To Begin June 24

On June 24th, a North American Aviation T-6 Texan warplane will be making its way to Fairbanks, Alaska as part of a flight re-creation and documentary to tell the untold story of Lend-Lease and the Alaska-Siberia Air Route. From 1942 – 1945, the United States secretly delivered nearly 8,000 American-made warplanes to the Soviet Union via this route, otherwise known as “ALSIB”. Approximately 6,000 miles long, it runs from Great Falls, Montana up through Canada and Alaska, across the Bering Sea, into Siberia, and on to Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

Unable To Conduct Fundraising Sorties From Reno-Stead Airport

The Collings Foundation is well known for offering the opportunity to fly in vintage WWII aircraft as a fundraising effort. The group tours the country conducting flying and static displaying their B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator, and P-51 Mustang, and at most stops, the group publicizes that members of the public can have an opportunity to ride in one of the iconic aircraft as a way to raise money to keep them flying. But not at Reno-Stead Airport in Nevada.
