Last-Minute Helium Donation … A ‘Macy's Miracle’ … Makes Civil War Replica Balloon Flight Possible
When Peter Arnold, Genesee Country Village & Museum president and CEO, set out last year to build and fly the world's first replica of a Civil War manned balloon – the Intrepid – little did he know his dream could collapse from a nationwide helium shortage. But he also didn't bargain that one of the country's most iconic retailers would step forward to deliver a miracle at the last minute, literally raising the project off the ground.
After a nearly 5,000-mile trip across the world, 150 members of the German air force recently arrived at Eielson AFB in Alaska with eight German Eurofighter Typhoons. It is the first time the German airframe has deployed overseas, according to German officials. In fact, it is the very first of the Eurofighter's participation in any U.S. exercise.
The United States Air Force Thunderbirds past and present will be saluted in November, 2012 as the Nevada Aerospace Hall of Fame (NVAHOF) enshrines and celebrates them at festivities coinciding with Aviation Nation- Nellis Air Force Base Open House and Air Show. The NVAHOF will recognize the current team and the Thunderbird Alumni at the NVAHOF induction banquet on November 7, 2012.
