The commander of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 11 completed his 1,000th carrier arrested landing, or trap, aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) June 18. Capt. Greg Harris completed the trap in an F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to the "Black Knights" of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 154.

The first dedicated Department of Defense rooftop heliport was dedicated last month in San Antonio, Texas. Located on the roof of the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, the heliport was commissioned to reduce transport time for critically ill and injured patients and better serve the surrounding community in times of disaster.

Syrian Air Force Pilot Defects To Jordan

Landed In The Kingdom In His MiG-21 Fighter

A Syrian air force pilot is apparently seeking political asylum in the Kingdom of Jordan, having landed there after flying a training mission in a MiG-21 fighter. The Syrian news agency SANA reported early Thursday morning (ET) that the air force had lost contact with the pilot during his training mission. They identified the pilot as Col. Hassan Mirei al-Hamadeh.
