It’s not every day that delegates from China attend a
lieutenant’s funeral in North Carolina, or that four A-10
Thunderbolt IIs fly overhead in a missing-man formation, or 300
people show up without having ever met the Air Force pilot. Even a
congressman made an appearance.
Innovative UAV tactics have transformed the battle space as
witnessed in Iraq and Afghanistan, said Maj. Gen. Stanley Gorenc,
Air Force deputy chief of staff for air and space operations, at
testimony before the House Armed Services Committee subcommittee on
tactical air and land forces April 6.
To improve effectiveness and efficiency, the Navy has started
moving toward remote briefing capabilities to forecast weather to
Navy pilots, first via facsimile and now to Web-based services. The
process began in late 2005, and all changes should be fully in
place by the end of 2007.
