Former Air Force Officer Flew Combat Tours In Korea, Vietnam
Deacon Billy J. Ellis, a retired USAF Major General who flew combat missions in Korea and Vietnam, as well as a tour with the Thunderbirds, passed away March 12th at the age of 84 in Charleston, SC.
Flew From A French Frigate On Counter-Piracy Operations In The Indian Ocean
A Royal Navy Lynx Helicopter And Crew, 217 Flight of 815 Naval Air Squadron, arrived back at Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton to a family welcome following their 4-month deployment on the French Navy frigate Surcouf. During the deployment they helped capture 12 suspected pirates following an attack on the Merchant Ship Jasmine by men armed with rocket-propelled grenades.
For the first time in a decade, the Atlantic City Air Show will go forward without a U.S. military act on its schedule. Another victim of sequestration, the Army's Golden Knights parachute team told the organizers of the New Jersey event that they would be unable to perform at the air show in June. But the Golden Knight's cancellation does not mean that the entire event will be scrapped.
Air Force Says Need Is 'Critical' To Advance Long-Delayed Program
The Pentagon has put an end to the challenge by Beechcraft for the award of the long-disputed LAS contract to Embraer and its U.S. partner Sierra Nevada Corp. The Air Force said that "unusual and compelling circumstances" were behind the move, and that it would move ahead with plans to build the airplanes in Jacksonville, FL.
Preparation Of The Facility Is Underway In NE Florida
Embraer Aircraft Holding, Inc. has signed a 10-year lease on a 40,000-square-foot hangar in which the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft for the U.S. Air Force Light Air Support (LAS) program will be assembled. Preparation of the facility is currently underway. The LAS aircraft are urgently needed to support the successful withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.
