Missile Defense Test Is A Bust

Interceptor Failed To Launch

The first full-blown test of the missile shield in almost two years fizzled on the pad Wednesday when the interceptor rocket shut itself down just prior to launch. That could spell setback for plans to deploy an early version of the missile defense by the end of the year.

The last planned work-ups for a deployment of F-14D Tomcats began at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB) New Orleans Nov. 30, when Fighter Squadron (VF) 213 arrived at the base to begin their Strike Fighter Advanced Readiness Program (SFARP) training with Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 204.

B-17 Flying Fortress, B-25 Mitchell To Tour Florida As First Part of Nationwide Tour

The schedule is posted for The Collings Foundation Wings of Freedom Tour -- one of the top WWII heavy bomber barnstorming tour programs in the country. The 2005 season will be starting with a 21-city tour of Florida featuring two of the most famous bomber aircraft of World War II, the Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress and North American B-25J Mitchell.
