As ANN reported Friday, the
first two VH-71 helicopters built to serve as Marine One for the
President of the United States have entered the flight test phase
at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD. Over the next 11 months,
the initial fleet of five presidential helicopters are scheduled to
be among additional test aircraft delivered. But now, it's not
clear the program will continue.
The US Navy's final report on the April 2007 loss of an F/A-18
pilot during a performance of the Blue Angels aerial demonstration
team concludes the pilot failed to properly tense his muscles to
counter the g-forces from a high-speed turn.
