Glitch In Aceh Tsunami Relief Airlift Put Right -- By Airlifted Experts

Last Wednesday we told you about the water buffalo (in some wire stories, a less-exotic "cow"-- hey, we went with the waterboo) that got onto a runway at Aceh in the tidal wave-flattened isle of Sumatra, Indonesia. As you might expect for any incident in which a two-ton animal tangles with a good-sized jet transport, everybody loses -- the critter (maybe the confusion on species came about because of the state it was left in by the jet's turbofans?), the jet, which suffered at least a main landing gear failure, but most of all the people of the battered region.

Hard-Landing Helo Was On Relief Mission

An SH-60 Seahawk helicopter from the USS Abraham Lincoln experienced a hard landing at Banda Aceh airfield in Indonesia Monday morning.

Such was apparently the case in northern Iraq over the weekend, where an F-16 dropped a satellite-guided munition on the wrong house, killing five Iraqis inside.

Will Provide FDCS For Block 40-45 Upgrade

Avtech Corporation announced today that it has been selected by Boeing to provide a Flight Deck Communications System (FDCS) for the E-3 AWACS Block 40-45 upgrade. The system will be comprised of an Audio Management Unit, Flight Deck Interface Unit and four Audio Control Panels. The system interfaces with an Audio Switching Unit (ASU) in the mission area of the aircraft facilitating flight deck-to-mission area communications.
