Report: Number Of Planned New Hires Presents 'Significant Challenges'
The FAA's plan to hire and train more than 11,700 new air traffic controllers through fiscal year 2021 presents significant challenges for the Agency, as new controllers can require more than 3 years of training to become fully certified. That is the assessment of the DOT inspector General in a report released late last month.

Piper Aircraft recently flew a Piper Archer powered by 93 octane unleaded automobile gas 2100 nautical miles roundtrip from Vero Beach, FL to Oshkosh, WI and back. The Piper Archer was on exhibit at Piper's EAA AirVenture static aircraft display.
Various Restrictions In Place Over A 12-Day Period
The FAA has published its initial NOTAM imposing flight restrictions in New York City for the 68th UN General Assembly September 18-30. Multiple Notices to Airmen (NOTAM) will be published to cover the events taking place during the 12 day session.
Low-Flying Aircraft Will Collect Air Samples For Analysis
During September, Houston area residents might notice a large white and blue airplane flying at low altitude occasionally making low spirals. You might be able to see the NASA logo on the aircraft tail. The 117-foot-long NASA P-3B research aircraft is equipped with instruments studying air pollution as part of a mission to help scientists better understand how to measure and forecast air quality from space.
