New York City And Shanksville, PA Will See Flight
Restrictions
The FAA issued a statement Friday indicating that, at the
request of law enforcement and national security partners,
temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) would be put in
place over New York City and Shanksville, PA, in addition to
the existing restrictions in the Washington, D.C., area this
weekend.
The U.S. House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology held
a hearing Thursday to examine concerns and issues associated with
interference on the GPS signal from the proposed LightSquared LLC
terrestrial broadband network related to Federal scientific
activities.
Current Continuing Resolution Runs Out September 16
Senate Commerce Committee Chair John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV
(D-WV) has made the opening salvo in what has become a traditional
war of dueling statement and news releases concerning funding for
the FAA. Rockefeller issued a statement Thursday urging the House
of Representatives to approve a 'clean' extension of the FAA before
the agency’s funding runs out on September 16th.
Principato: Cutting Program 'Simply Doesn't Make Sense'
Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) President
Greg Principato expressed concern Friday morning with the proposed
five percent reduction in Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funding
included in House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee
Chairman John Mica’s legislation to extend operating
authority for the FAA for the 22nd time.
