NTSB Reports Both Pilots Operating In VFR Conditions When Accidents Occurred

Two NTSB preliminary reports issued this week chronicle two similar accidents in which the airplanes struck suspended wires and then impacted the ground. The accidents fatally injured two pilots and one passenger. One was the first test flight of Jack Morrison's experimental E-Racer aircraft after he had received paperwork for the plane making it legal to fly.

Lawsuit Filed In 2009 Fatal Accident In West Florida

Pilot Reported "Engine Out" And Was Attempting An Emergency Landing

The estate of Tina M. Stallings has filed a wrongful death suit against the estate of a pilot and several aviation companies as a result of an accident which occurred in October, 2009. Stallings and her daughter Cami Copland, age 7, were the passengers on board the PA-46 when it went down. All three were fatally injured when the plane impacted the ground and caught fire.

Organization Mobilizing Pilots To Respond In Wake Of The Storm

Bahamas Habitat is mobilizing pilots to conduct relief flights to the Bahamas in the wake of Hurricane Irene. The organization’s Disaster Relief Coordinators will be flying to the Bahamas as soon as practical to assess damage and needs. Once the needs are determined the group will direct its volunteer pilots and planes to the greatest points of need.

Christopher Hart Sworn In For Second Term As NTSB Vice Chairman

Previous Board Service In The '90s

Christopher Hart was sworn in today for his second two-year term as NTSB vice chairman. He became a board member for the second time on August 12, 2009, and six days later was designated as vice chairman by President Obama. Vice Chairman Hart had previously served as an NTSB board member from 1990 to 1993.
