The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) praised
Wednesday's announcement of the resumption of general aviation
flights at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) formally
announced today that an interim final rule will be published in the
next several days authorizing resumption of limited, tightly
screened general aviation flight operations at Washington's Reagan
National Airport for the first time since the terrorist attacks on
September 11, 2001.
Contrary to earlier reports, Heyden "Jim" Schaeffer and student
pilot Troy Martin were just seconds away from being blown out of
the sky, according to published reports. Defense Secretary Donald
Rumsfeld had given fighter piltos intercepting their Cessna 150K in
the Washington ADIZ permission to shoot.
Bill Would Bring State Law In Line With Federal
Regulations
The New Jersey Legislature wants to avoid what happened in
Pennsylvania last year. For that reason, lawmakers are working on a
bill that would bring state laws regarding flying while intoxicated
more in line with FAA regulations.
EAA's Multi-National Effort To Recruit Young Pilots
On May 28, Jared Aicher will climb aboard a Cessna 172 and
depart on a trip to 60 cities scattered across the 48 lower United
States and the Caribbean. His mission: to give more than 400 kids
airplane rides through the EAA Young Eagles program. Local EAA
Chapters across the country will welcome Aicher and his "Eagle
Flight" project as he travels the country offering free flights to
youths aged 8-17 at each stop.
