Plane Destroyed, Mechanic Hurt In Mysterious Explosion

Witness: "I Felt The Ground Moving Beneath Me"

A mysterious explosion rocked the Lafayette Regional Airport in Louisiana Tuesday, destroying a twin-engine aircraft and slightly injuring a mechanic. According to the Lafayette Advertiser, the aircraft, a Cessna 340, was severely damaged in the explosion, which happened in front of Paul Fornet Air Service at around 0900 local.

Construction Almost Done On 58 New Hangars

Airplanes aren't the only things taking off at the Poplar Grove Airport in Illinois. The airport's expansion is in high gear. Construction is nearing competition on 58 new hangars located on the north side of the airport, as well as the construction of nearly 50 custom condominiums within Bel Air Estates, a residential Fly-In Community, and the continued development of the Poplar Grove Vintage Wings & Wheels Museum.

GAO Dings FAA For Slow Computer Upgrades

Four Cities Cited As Having Deficient Computers And Displays

The FAA isn't upgrading its computers or radar displays fast enough. That was the conclusion of a General Accountability Office report, which cite aging equipment in St. Louis, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Chicago and Denver. The equipment that should be replaced most quickly, the report said, is the radar and flight data computers at the FAA's TRACON facilities.

Five Inducted into Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame

Duffy Gaier, Field Morey, Herbert Hardrath, Walter Lees And Paul Culver All Honored Aviators

The Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame honored five aviators for their accomplishments in state aviation at its annual Investiture Ceremony and Banquet at the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh. Inducted on November 6 were Harold "Duffy" Gaier, Field Morey, Herbert Hardrath, Walter Lees and Paul Culver.
