Aero-Terms!

A rocket fuel which burns spontaneously with nitric acid or nitrogen tetroxide. Can also be used as a mono-propellant: when passed through an iridium-bearing catalyst, it decomposes at high temperature into constituent gases of ammonia, nitrogen and hydrogen. Used in small thrusters for orbit modification and attitude control of spacecraft. Also see MMH and UDMH.

Source: Jim Albaugh, head of Boeing Integrated Defense Systems. Citing the length of time needed for the company to develop a competitive entrant for the Pentagon's revised KC-X contract bid for a new US Air Force tanker, Boeing says it will likely opt-out rebidding for the $40 billion deal -- ceding the competition to rival Northrop Grumman, and that company's partners at EADS.
