During WWII British aircraft returning from missions in Germany had to fly over the English Channel. In the sailors' lingo the word 'channel' has a familiar synonym 'ditch'. Hence, the English Channel was called the 'Ditch'.

Aero-News: Quote of the Day (07.02.08)

Source: Mesa Air Group Chairman and CEO Jonathan Ornstein. Mesa this week reported a fiscal second-quarter profit of $9.4 million, even after adjusting its earnings to reflect a settlement with Hawaiian Airlines over allegations of unfair competitive tactics. Mesa's go! Airlines subsidiary, which operates interisland flights in Hawaii, saw a net operating loss of $8.3 million, bringing total losses since its June 2006 launch to $34.7 million... but Ornstein believes go! is poised for a turnaround.
