Aero-News Quote Of The Day (06.18.05)

"Mr. Allen, the only airplane I ever built had rubber bands on it." Source: Former Boeing CEO Malcom Stamper, when asked by his predecessor, Bill Allen, to come aboard for the 747 project. Chronicled by Rob Serling in his book on Boeing, Stamper accepted Allen's challenge and went on to build not only the world's biggest commercial airplane, but the world's biggest factory in which it was assembled. Stamper went west earlier this week. He died Tuesday of prostate cancer. He was 80.
