ANN REALTIME REPORTING 12.17.08 1710 EST: The National Air Transportation Association tells ANN it has learned Congressman Ray LaHood (R-IL) will be nominated by President-elect Obama on Friday as the next secretary of the US Department of Transportation.

Team Will Headline Second Annual Event

The Air Force Thunderbirds have announced that they will perform at next year's OC Air Show in Ocean City, NJ. The event will open the town's summer season in style as it moves to a weekend, taking place June 13-14, 2009.

Two Seriously Big Birds Heading For Certification

Among the more intriguing aircraft of NBAA 2008 were two good-sized birds brought by a manufacturer formerly best known for their experimental designs. Ron Lueck was on hand to discuss the new and upcoming airplanes from Comp Air, starting with the most recent Comp Air 9 and continuing on to the Comp Air 12.

Air Route Surveillance Radar. Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) radar used primarily to detect and display an aircraft's position while en route between terminal areas. The ARSR enables controllers to provide radar air traffic control service when aircraft are within the ARSR coverage. In some instances, ARSR may enable an ARTCC to provide terminal radar services similar to but usually more limited than those provided by a radar approach control.
