Frequency (CTAF)
A frequency designed for the purpose of carrying out airport
advisory practices while operating to or from an airport without an
operating control tower. The CTAF may be a UNICOM, Multicom, FSS,
or tower frequency and is identified in appropriate aeronautical
publications.
Aero-Linx: FAA Lighting Systems
Group - RVR
The RVR (Runway Visual Range) is required to support precision
landing and takeoff operations in the NAS. The system measures
visibility, background luminance, and runway light intensity to
determine the distance a pilot should be able to see down the
runway. RVRs are needed to support increased landing capacity at
existing airports, and new airport construction.
