Ya have to have to hand it to the folks at AmSafe -- aviation safety is a tough gig to pursue, and even tougher when you're thinking "out of the box." AmSafe has done just that... with a novel new way to incorporate air bag technologies into a somewhat conventional lapbelt... making installation and certification a far less strenuous affair than an integrated airframe solution. In 1997, AmSafe reports that it developed the first aviation airbag restraint system, which took its first flight in 2001, and is now flying on more than 25 commercial airlines and on over eighty-percent of the new GA fleet.

Eclipse Aviation, manufacturer of the world’s first very light jet (VLJ), has announced the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has certified its first flight simulator, manufactured by OPINICUS, as a Level D Full Motion Device. Obtaining this level of certification on the first attempt is unprecedented for a new manufacturer of a new aircraft.

Flying In Style: Boeing Receives Follow-on Order for 787-VIP From PrivatAir

Switzerland-Based Business Aviation Group Expands 787 VIP order

Boeing and Geneva-based PrivatAir have announced an order for one Boeing 787-8 VIP airplane, a purchase-right exercise from PrivatAir's initial 787 order in 2006. Today's order is valued at $162 million. Through this agreement, PrivatAir has two 787s on order and has secured an additional purchase right.
