Deal Includes 15 737 MAX And 10 Next-Generation 737s
Boeing and international leasing company Avolon have finalized a firm order for 10 737 MAX 8s, 5 737 MAX 9s and 10 Next-Generation 737-800s. The order, first announced as a commitment at the Farnborough Airshow in July, has a current list-price value of $2.4 billion. The order continues the momentum for the 737 MAX in the airplane-leasing industry.
The board of directors of Lufthansa has voted to create a low-cost brand to fly many of its domestic and European routes beginning on January 1, 2013. The main airline will still operate flights which make connections at its twin hubs of Munich and Frankfurt.
LOT Polish Airlines has officially announced the launch dates for its new Boeing 787 Dreamliner intercontinental service. The inaugural flight from Warsaw to Chicago will be on Jan. 16, 2013, followed closely by Toronto on Feb. 1 and New York's JFK on Feb 3. Beijing will begin one month later on March 3, 2013.
FlyersRights.org Demands That The Agency Consider Fines For Carriers Who Experienced Long Ground Holds
The airline consumer organization FlyersRights.org has called on The Department of Transportation to investigate and fine airlines $27,500 per customer stuck on grounded planes in July. The DOT announced that 18 domestic flights experienced ground holds for longer than the tarmac rule allowed in July, making it the second-worst month since the policy took effect in April 2010, according to Transportation Department records.
Union Says It Has Not Organized Or Authorized Any Job Action
A recent spate of flight cancellations at American Airlines reported to be due to pilots calling in sick is the result of poor operational performance on the part of the airline's management, not an organized job action, according to a statement released Thursday by the Allied Pilots Association.
