Boeing Delivers 737 Test Bed To United Airlines

Plane Was Used To Test Efficiency Improvements In Flight

Boeing says the Next-Generation 737 that served as a flying test bed for a series of efficiency improvements has now been delivered to United Airlines. Boeing began performance improvement testing in November 2010 with the goal of reducing fuel consumption by up to two percent. For customers, that would mean saving an average of $120,000 per airplane, per year, based on current fuel prices.

Two Austrian Eurofighters conducted a QRA training interception of Austrian Airlines new A380 on its flight through Austrian airspace on Monday, August 22nd. After Vienna's Mayor Dr. Haupl christened the new Lufthansa A380 "Wien" at the hub of Austrian Airlines, the Eurofighters, scrambling from their base in Zeltweg/Styria, intercepted and flew in formation with the A380.

United Continental Holdings announced Tuesday that it is converting to paperless flight decks and deploying 11,000 iPads to all United and Continental pilots. The electronic flight bags (EFB) replace paper flight manuals, and as a first for major network carriers, provide pilots with paperless aeronautical navigational charts through an iPad app.
