Program Strengthens Aviation Security, Expedites Passenger
Screening
ALPA, the Air Line Pilots Association, International, and ATA,
the Air Transport Association of America, which represents major
airlines, began operating the first test site for the Known
Crewmember program at Chicago O’Hare International Airport on
Tuesday. The new program positively verifies pilot identity and
employment status, allowing them to bypass screening lines for
passengers.
Virgin Atlantic Airways has announced a $162.9 million
investment in product development as it reported a strong year of
trading and a return to profit. Despite the winter closure of
London Heathrow and the Ash Cloud crisis costing the business a
combined $65.2 million, strong growth in business traffic and solid
load factors across all cabins delivered a good recovery.
CIT Aerospace has signed a purchase agreement with Airbus for
the 50 A320neo family aircraft it had committed to at the 49th Le
Bourget airshow on June 21st. This deal brings the total number of
Airbus aircraft ordered by CIT since 1999 to 237, made up of 191
A320 Family aircraft (including the 50 A320neo aircraft), 41 A330s,
five A350 XWBs.

The deployment of the FAA's NextGen Air Traffic Control system
may be years down the road, even further if the alphabet groups and
airlines have their way. But the new system has a fan in Aviation
Manager Kim Day at Denver International Airport, where elements of
NextGen are being phased in.
