For all the talk of tougher security at British airports in the
past week -- and the resulting delays and hassles to passengers --
it would appear there are a few bugs still to be worked out in the
system.
ANN REALTIME UPDATE 08.16.06 1400 EDT: It appears increasingly
likely that this morning's diversion of a United Airlines flight
from London bound for Washington, DC was due to an altercation
involving a claustrophobic passenger -- and was not the result of
an attempted terrorist attack.
In the wake of the second failure in a week of an ILS approach
system at Los Angeles International -- and with many unanswered
questions still surrounding last month's blackout of the Air Route
Traffic Control Center in Palmdale -- officials at LAX are changing
their tone when speaking about of relationship with the FAA.
British police say they've arrested another suspected in the
plot to bomb as many as ten commercial flights from the UK to the
US. In the meantime... Britain's airport security nightmare
continued into its sixth day Tuesday, marked by more delays and
dozens of flight cancellations.
The world's biggest computer-maker is recalling 4.1 million
computer batteries because they may be prone to catching fire -- a
nasty threat anywhere... but especially on both commercial and
cargo planes.
