This has been the winter of their discontent. Once again,
hundreds of passengers were stranded on planes for as many as nine
hours Friday night, as a fierce ice storm settled over New York's
John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Once again, workers for European planemaker Airbus took to the
streets last week, staging strikes and protests to show a united
front against the controversial "Power8" restructuring program
mandated by parent company EADS.
Six Passengers Killed After Plane Touches Down Short Of
Runway
Early indications point to fog as a culprit in Saturday's fatal
crash of a UTair Tu-134 in Samara. Six people were killed and 26
injured when the Russian airliner apparently landed short of the
runway, and flipped over before its fuselage broke in two.
Beleaguered carrier Northwest Airlines has the time it says it
needs to retain exclusive control over its financial future. On
Thursday, US Bankruptcy Court Judge Allan Gropper ruled the carrier
could have its requested extension until June 30.
Over 450 -400s Delivered; 36 Freighter Orders Remain
An era has ended... with the dawn of another on the horizon.
This week, Boeing announced it will end production of the
passenger version of its storied 747-400 jumbo jet, as an
unidentified customer cancelled the last four orders for the
plane.
