Twenty-Two Airports Now Using Airport Surface Detection
Equipment
Philadelphia International Airport (KPHL) is now operating with
Sensis Corporation's Airport Surface Detection Equipment, Model X
(ASDE-X), a runway incursion detection and alerting system.
While they're not saying where, or how many, Department of
Homeland Security officials do say the first of 150 full body
scanners are ready for deployment a some U.S. airports in two
weeks.
The NTSB says airlines and pilot's unions should use cockpit
voice recorders to routinely monitor what goes on in the cockpit,
and not just for accident investigations ... a suggestion that has
received a cold reception from pilots and unions.
Lufthansa pilots have suspended a four-day walkout which
disrupted air travel for thousands of people, agreeing to hold
discussions on renewing negotiations this week.
Boeing's new Dreamliner suffered a slight bump in the road when
one of the test aircraft experienced an "uncommanded loss of thrust
in one of the engines." The test pilots on the flight made a
precautionary landing at Moses Lake airport in central Washington
State.
