It's one heckuva deal for Northwest Airlines... a $239 million
savings on airport charges at Minneapolis-St. Paul International
Airport, in exchange for the airline keeping its headquarters in
the Twin Cities once the airline emerges from Chapter 11 bankruptcy
protection.
American Airlines -- fighting the public relations debacle it
suffered in December, when bad weather forced the carrier to ground
dozens of flights for hours at a time -- said this week if such an
event happens again, passengers won't have to wait as long before
they're able to get off the aircraft.
Carrier Receives Final Approval For DC-Beijing Flights
The Department of Transportation dotted its final i's and
crossed the last t's this week on its approval for United Airlines
to begin flying a new route to China. On Thursday, the DOT gave its
final OK for United to start service to Beijing in March from
Washington Dulles International.
