Reflecting the slumping economy, airline pilot hiring hit an
all-time low in November, adding only 133 new pilot jobs for the
month according to AIR, Inc. The airline industry hasn't seen pilot
hiring numbers this low since November 2001, two months after the
9/11 terrorist attacks.
Vietnam Airlines and ATR inked a contract this week for the
purchase of six new ATR 72-500 turboprop airliners, valued at over
$112 million. The order will increase the Vietnamese flag carrier's
fleet of ATR 72-500s to 14 aircraft by 2010.
