Grumman Mallard Turboprop Down Off Miami Beach, PAX Deaths Confirmed

Twelve Reported Dead, 18 Aboard

Local reports say 12 bodies have recovered from an accident just off the coast of Miami Beach, where a seaplane carrying as many as 18 onboard went down at approximately 2:45 pm EST. There are conflicting reports as to any survivors, with varying reports of two to six passengers now at local hospitals.

Old Airliners Come Under Review

Twice is apparently enough in Nigeria. After two aviation tragedies since October -- including last weekend's accident involving a Sosoliso Airlines DC-9 that claimed 103 lives -- the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has ordered all Boeing 737-100s and -200s in service in that country to be grounded until they can be inspected in accordance with an Airworthiness Directive issued more than five years ago by the FAA in Washington.
