Company Says The Move Was Made To 'Achieve Industry
Competitiveness'
The aviation world woke up Tuesday morning to the news that AMR
Corporation, the parent company of American Airlines, Inc.
("American") and AMR Eagle Holding Corporation ("American Eagle"),
had filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization paperwork in the
U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.
The debate about whether overreaching airline security measures
have gone to far has some new fuel. The FAA has ordered airlines to
remove the emergency oxygen generators in airliner lavatories out
of fear they were, quote - "...easily accessible and could have
been manipulated to create a flight hazard." Coming up with a
secure system to replace them could take as long as four years,
leaving passengers who happen to be in the lav during a
decompression event vulnerable in the meantime.
Delayed Departure Of Tunisian Airbus At Mitiga Airport
About a dozen cars fill with protesters drove onto the tarmac at
Mitiga Airport in Tripoli and surrounded a Tunisian A300 airliner
with passengers on board, preventing it from departing.
Four Percent Say They Have Done So Intentionally In Violation
Of Rules
A recent survey by Australian flight comparison site Skyscanner
has revealed that 28% of travellers have 'smuggled' contraband
liquids past airport security either accidentally, or in full
knowledge that they are breaking the rules.
