The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace
Workers (IAM) announced late Saturday its members voted to ratify a
new 4-year contract with Boeing by 74 percent... bringing an end to a 57-day walkout that
idled the planemaker's facilities in Washington, Oregon, Kansas,
and California.
The US Department of Homeland Security's Transportation Security
Administration announced an agreement Friday with the European
Union Directorate General for Energy and Transport on air cargo
screening standards for passenger carrying aircraft. The agreement
was reached in advance of a February 2009 deadline to screen 50
percent of air cargo on passenger-carrying aircraft.
Adds Delta "Success Story" Should Be An Example For Other
Airlines
Capt. John Prater, president of the Air Line Pilots Association,
Int'l, issued the following statement Thursday after the closing of
the Delta Airlines and Northwest Airlines merger, and on the first
day of a single collective bargaining agreement between the pilots
of both carriers and senior executives.
The Air Transport Association, industry trade organization for a
number of US airlines, expressed harsh opposition this week to the
European Parliament's October 24 final approval of legislation
covering the world's airlines under the European Emissions Trading
Scheme (ETS).
