Says EU-US Meetings Offer Historic Opportunity For Change
Heathrow's second biggest airline, bmi, has urged EU and US
negotiating teams to "seize the historic opportunity" offered by
Monday's talks on open skies across the Atlantic. The airline says
negotiators have a real opportunity to bring to an immediate end
the "illegal agreement" that limits the number of airlines that can
provide competitive services from Heathrow to the US.
But If Approved, Only About 500 Of The 4,400 Laid-Off Workers
Would Return To Work
Striking Northwest Airline Mechanics will reportedly have a
chance to vote on he latest contract offer from management -- even
though, under its terms, only about 500 of the 4,400 union members
would actually go back to work.
Mesa Air Group, Inc. announced Wednesday it had met with
officials from Hawaii's Department of Transportation to provide
them a proposal to provide air service in that state.
According to AIR, Inc., airlines hired 969 pilots in September,
bringing the year-to-date total to 8,319. The National carriers
continued strong in September hiring 317 pilots, followed by the
Majors with 217, and the Non-Jet Operators finished in third,
hiring 118 new pilots for the month.
