NASA has assigned the crew for space shuttle mission STS-128.
The flight will carry science and storage racks to the
International Space Station in mid-2009.
NASA Administrator Michael Griffin announced last week that Rob
Strain will be the next center director of NASA's Goddard Space
Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. Strain is currently the head of the
Space Department at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics
Lab in Laurel, Md. He will assume his duties as center director on
August 4.
An incumbent US Congressman from Houston, TX is campaigning for
re-election by suggesting a total overhaul of NASA, getting rid of
bureaucracy and putting the scientists and engineers back in charge
of the overall vision for the space program.
NASA's Deep Impact spacecraft has created a video of the moon
transiting (passing in front of) Earth as seen from the
spacecraft's point of view 31 million miles away. Scientists are
using the video to develop techniques to study alien worlds.
