More weather woes for NASA, this time affecting its
delay-plagued Dawn spacecraft. A lightning advisory near Kennedy
Space Center Thursday morning forced the space agency to scrub its
plans to begin fueling the second-stage of the probe's United
Launch Alliance Delta II booster rocket.
When it comes to recycling, NASA engineers are quickly becoming
experts on the matter. The space agency said Tuesday it plans to
reuse two older spacecraft on new missions to study comets and
planets around other stars.

modified 747 transport -- touched down at Cape Canaveral Tuesday,
bringing the STS-117 mission to its official end.
Aluminum parts supplier Alcoa announced Wednesday its North
American Rolled Products business has won a one year contract from
NASA, to develop the manufacturing capability and supply of high
performance aluminum-lithium plate and ingot to be used for the
Ares 1 crew launch vehicle (CLV) upper stage, the rocket that will
carry the space agency's next-generation Orion manned space
vehicle.
