Historic Spacecraft, Launch Plane In Only Public Showing
The cast and crew of the Mojave Aerospace Ventures
X-Prize-winning entry were center stage at AirVenture on Monday.
Pilot/astronaut Mike Melvill flew several overhead passes before
guiding the hybrid aircraft/spacecraft combination to a perfect
landing at about ten minutes past three PM.
At a morning press briefing, EAA's Dick Knapinski said that the
planned 1500 arrival of SpaceShipOne and White Knight remained
3:00, but warned that the time was tentative.
NASA's ER-2 high-altitude weather research plane and the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) P3-Orion
research aircraft flew several missions July 14, 15 and 16 into the
turbulent tropical atmosphere over the eastern Pacific.
