NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander performed its first wet chemistry
experiment on Martian soil flawlessly Thursday, returning a wealth
of data that for Phoenix scientists was like winning the
lottery.
Following a nine-month design review of the rocket that will one
day return US astronauts to the moon -- and, eventually, transport
them to Mars -- on Wednesday NASA unveiled a bulked-up version of
its proposed Ares V rocket.
NASA's deadline for accepting applications for the 2009
Astronaut Candidate Class is July 1. Those selected could fly to
space for long-duration stays on the International Space Station
and missions to the moon.
